It is becoming more common for health service organizations, human service agencies and schools to declare they are trauma-informed. However, a truly trauma-responsive system goes beyond offering trauma sensitive practices. Instead, it requires an ongoing, deliberate process of examining all policies, procedures and practices and aligning these 3 Ps into a cohesive delivery of services within an equitable trauma-informed framework. This workshop first considers policies and procedures that promote equity and prevent inadvertent re-traumatization of children and families exposed to trauma. A major segment of the training delves into neurobiological trauma-informed practices and therapies centered on building healthy relationship connections, emotional and behavioral regulation and enhancing executive function skills that can be impacted in children who have experienced trauma. Recommended caregiver approaches that support skill development on the home front along with a caregiver toolbox for distribution will be provided.
